Challenge

A ten-year-old boy was living with incontinence. He needed a way to understand his condition, take an active part in therapy, and continue practicing between visits.

LEARNING THROUGH PLAY. PROGRESS THROUGH PRACTICE.

Dr. Tiffani Bacon, PT, worked with him one-on-one, using a game-like format to make learning about his condition engaging and accessible. She also created an individualized home exercise program so he could practice between sessions. After approximately four visits over six to eight weeks, he achieved continence and enjoyed an improved quality of life. [This anonymized story describes one child’s past physical therapy care with Dr. Bacon. It does not describe a result from the current Bladder Breakthrough™ program; each child’s progress is different.]

Individualized home practice plan

I wanted him to be part of his own care. We made learning about his bladder feel like a game, then gave him a plan he could practice at home. He achieved continence, and his quality of life improved. That’s the kind of progress that stays with me: a child understanding the plan, taking part in it, and getting back to enjoying everyday life.

The Challenge

Incontinence was affecting this boy’s quality of life. His care needed to make a sensitive subject approachable, help him take part in therapy, and give him a practical way to continue the work between visits.

The Solution

Dr. Bacon used a game-like format to help him learn about his condition and participate in his one-on-one sessions. She also provided an individualized home exercise program so he had a plan to practice between appointments. The learning continued at home, with a plan created for him.

The Results

After approximately four sessions spread over six to eight weeks, he achieved continence and enjoyed an improved quality of life.

This was one child’s experience during Dr. Bacon’s prior physical therapy care. It is not a guaranteed timeline or a result from the current Bladder Breakthrough™ program.
